Boycott against Israel agreement suspended in Andalusia
Huelva Court number 1 suspended the boycott agreements against Israel adopted by Ayamonte City Council, through a writ issued on October 29, 2017.
On may 25th the plenary session of the City Council of Ayamonte (20.000 inhabitants, in the south of Spain), passed a decision that engaged the city in the boycott campaign against Israel. This decision was promoted by Recuperemos Ayamonte, the local franchise of Podemos party (radical left) in the city, and passed with the votes of the Socialist Party and IU (Communist party), in spite of the fact they were warned about the illegality of the resolution by the city clerk. Popular Party (centre-conservative) and PA (regionalist party), voted against the resolution.
City Hall received a seal designating the town “Israel Apartheid-free Space”, to be featured on the town’s web page and in municipal publications. The municipal Council agreed to encourage cooperation with the BDS movement in order to guarantee adequate application of the decision.
The obvious discriminatory nature of the BDS is once again revealed. The movement’s proposals, based on assumptions and falsehoods, propel entities to commit blatantly illegal actions which clearly contradict the Constitution and weaken our fundamental liberties.
Thanks to the legal initiative of ACOM, which exposed the illegality of BDS resolutions, that discriminate against anyone based on national, ethnic or religious origin, including the Jews, 13 boycott agreements have been annulled by the courts (including 2 rulings of High Courts of Justice), 7 City Councils have voluntarily revoked said agreements after our legal action, and 2 municipalities has its agreements legally suspended until a final decision is made.
