New Judicial Blow Against the University Boycott of Israel

ACOM secures a procedural victory against the boycott of the University of Burgos.

The Association for Action and Communication on the Middle East (ACOM) has achieved a landmark procedural victory in its legal battle against institutional antisemitism.

The High Court of Justice of Castilla y León (Administrative Chamber, Section 1, Burgos) has upheld the appeal filed by ACOM against a lower court ruling that had dismissed its challenge to the University of Burgos’ decision to join the so-called “University Network for Palestine,” which included the immediate suspension of cooperation with Israeli academic institutions and companies.

With this decision, the Court recognizes ACOM’s full legal standing and confirms that these university boycott agreements are subject to judicial review. It dismantles the inadmissibility arguments defended by the University of Burgos and by the State Attorney’s Office—dependent on Pedro Sánchez’s Ministry of Justice—which has also seen its procedural strategy fail.

Spanish courts reaffirm that this type of political decision adopted by university bodies does not escape judicial oversight and can be reviewed in court when violations of fundamental rights are alleged.

This ruling adds to a long series of actions undertaken by ACOM in defense of legality, institutional neutrality, and fundamental rights in the face of campaigns of exclusion and discrimination against Israel and the Jewish people.

ACOM will continue its work in defense of the rule of law and against antisemitism, wherever it attempts to disguise itself as political or academic ideology.
